The first step doesn't have to happen in a chair.
If it's been a while, the hardest part is walking in blind. The Oral Balance Test is a saliva sample you give at home — about two minutes, no appointment, nobody looking in your mouth. You get a plain-language report, and you decide what happens next.

A way to start that asks almost nothing of you.
Plenty of people avoid the dentist, and most of them know the avoiding is the problem. This isn't a way around that. It's a smaller first step — one that gives you information and something concrete to bring with you when you're ready to go.
Nothing happens in a chair
You spit into a small tube at home and drop it in the mail. No appointment to book, no waiting room, no instruments, and no one has to look in your mouth for it to work.
You go in already knowing
Not knowing is most of the dread. Your report tells you what was actually found, in plain language — so the appointment stops being an unknown and becomes a conversation about something specific.
It hands you the words
The last page is a short list of questions written to be handed straight to your dentist. If starting the conversation is the part you dread, that page does it for you.
Four steps, none of them in an office.
No fasting, no prep, no appointment.
A kit arrives
Order online and a collection kit comes to your door, free. Plain packaging — it doesn't announce itself.
You spit in a tube
Let saliva pool, then spit into the funnel until it reaches the line. About two minutes, on your own timeline, with nobody watching.
You mail it back
Seal it in the prepaid envelope and drop it in the mail. No phone call, no scheduling, no conversation required.
Your results are yours
About a week later your report lands in your private OraPath account. Nobody else is notified. You choose whether and when to share it.

You can read the whole report before you order.
If not knowing what's coming is the hard part, this removes it. The full five-page sample report is on the site — every page, walked through, before you spend anything.
- One number, then the reasons behind it An Oral Balance Score out of 100 and the band it sits in — then the specific findings that produced it.
- Every organism, named and explained All sixteen, each with a one-line note on what it does. Nothing hidden behind a summary.
- Questions to ask your dentist A short list written to be handed over at your appointment, so you don't have to find the words yourself.
- When to check again A retest window matched to your result, so "later" becomes an actual date.
Straight answers
Can I use this instead of going to the dentist?
No — and we'd rather say that plainly than sell you something on a false promise. This measures bacteria in your saliva. It can't see a cavity, check your gums, or look at bone, and it doesn't diagnose anything. Only an exam can do that. What it can do is give you real information and a reason to go, which for a lot of people is the part that's been missing.
I haven't been in years. Is this going to tell me something terrible?
It might tell you something worth acting on — that's the point of measuring. But it reports bacteria, not damage, and it comes with context rather than a verdict: what was found, what it means, and what to do about it. Most people find a specific finding easier to sit with than a vague dread that's been building for years.
Do I have to talk to anyone?
No. You order online, collect at home, and mail it back. There's no appointment, no phone call, and no consultation to sit through. Your results go to your private OraPath account and nobody else is notified — sharing them is entirely your decision.
Does the collection hurt?
No. You let saliva pool in your mouth and spit into a small tube until it reaches the fill line. No swab, no scraping, no needle, nothing goes in your mouth. It takes about two minutes and you can stop and start as you like.
What if I'm not ready to go to a dentist yet?
Then don't, yet. The report is yours to keep and it doesn't expire. Some people test, sit with it, and go a few months later — the report is just as useful then, and you'll have a baseline to compare against when you retest.
How long until I get results?
Your report is ready within 2 business days of your sample reaching our lab — about a week from the day you mail it, once transit both ways is counted. It's the same validated test dental practices order, run in our own CLIA-certified, COLA-accredited lab. It has not been cleared or approved by the FDA.
Which states do you ship to?
We ship the at-home Balance Test to most US states, but not yet to AK, CA, CT, HI, MD, MA, NJ, NY, RI. Those states apply extra requirements to at-home lab testing, and we've held them back from this first launch rather than cut corners. We're working through them.
If you're in one of those states and want the test, ask your dental practice — they can order OraPath panels for you directly.
Not in your state yet
We can't ship the test to you yet. We'll tell you the day that changes.
Lab licensing works state by state, and a few are still in progress. If you're in one of them, leave your email and we'll let you know the moment the Oral Balance Test is available where you live — nothing else.
